You can get to Muonio with your own car by four-way road either via Tornio - Pello along the western border vt21 or by hooking up via Rovaniemi - Kittilä along vt79. VR transports by car train from Helsinki daily in the winter and several times a week in the summer to the Kolar railway station, from where it is only an hour's journey to Muonio by taking the vt21. The car train also runs to Rovaniemi, from where the journey to Muonio is about 230 km. If you come by train without a car, there is a taxi service from Kolar railway station to Muonio. You can also rent a car at Kolar station through Scandia Rent.

Finnair flies to both Rovaniemi and Kittilä, both of which have good daily bus connections in the direction of Muonio. The journey from Kittilä Airport takes less than an hour, and a regular bus connection or a taxi service is available all year round, unless you want to rent a car at the airport.
